Education System(India)

How many times have you heard your friend saying this in a class lecture - "All of this won't be of any use in the real world. Who will ask us the compounds of Lanthinum and their properties". But still you and even they are sitting for the sleepy lecture. Why? Because both of you know, it might appear in the exam and you need to clear the exam for a job, bank balance, etc ,etc. Though not a perfectly generalized case this is the common* situation. So why do we have it all in the syllabus?
My interpretation -
  • Most people(me included) agree that primary schooling is necessary. You need to be able to communicate in a language if you have to survive in tis world(but why the hell i am here in the first place?).
  • The problem is with higher education. Many students fail to convince their parents about their lack of interest in a subject and are forced in fields that bring money(Why are certain domains preferred than others). Some parents think they gave their children a choice, but actually they don't. "Do you want to be a Doc. or Engg.?" is not what i call giving a choice. How many people do you think got all the career options (irrespective of success rate) arranged before them when they had to make a choice. Were you ever told careers like volcanologist/ barber/ skydiving trainer? Choices were made for you and you never knew(it's like internet but not knowing what to Google). So if you are one of those who hate the lectures, maybe you don;t belong where you are and the first thing you need to do when you think you are able to take your own decisions is to take a decision.
